84-year-old Desmond Perkins is the new chair of our Wales-wide Age Cymru Consultative Forum.
Mr Perkins from Dinas Powys chaired his first meeting of the forum, which has 40 members and meets quarterly, in Cardiff on 1 February.
"Out of all the positions I have held, I'm deeply honoured to have been voted chair of Age Cymru's Consultative Forum", says the retired bank manager.
"My priority is to make sure that we deliver greater awareness of the issues both large and small that face our ageing population".
Desmond Perkins' appointment as chair the Age Cymru Consultative Forum is for a four year period and the role also sees him appointed to the Age Cymru Board of Trustees.
"I am very happy to welcome Desmond Perkins to his new role as chair of the Age Cymru Consultative Forum and as a trustee of our charity" said Age Cymru's Chair of Trustees, Dr Bernadette Fuge OBE.
"His years of experience as chair of organisations including the Newydd Housing Association, the General Optical Council UK's disciplinary committee and Vale of Glamorgan Community Health Council, will serve Desmond well in this post."
Desmond Perkins is a founder member of the Newydd Housing Association and Freeman of the City of London.
