Age Cymru is seeking a full-time Project Officer with strong communication and interpersonal skills to support the HOPE Project (Helping Others Participate and Engage). Working closely with local Age Connects and Age Cymru partners, you will help deliver independent advocacy for people aged 50 and over and carers across Wales. This is a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2027.
You will help develop advocacy services across the region and deliver the HOPE Project’s early-intervention objectives, enabling older people to understand their options, express their views and have a stronger voice in decisions that affect them.
The HOPE Project helps older people and carers to participate in decisions, make informed choices and have their voices heard. It also enables them to share their experiences and develop their skills and knowledge, while raising awareness of advocacy and the support available.
As part of the HOPE regional project team, you will recruit, train and manage volunteers who support older people. You will also maintain regular contact with older people and carers, receive and assess advocacy referrals, and allocate suitable referrals to volunteers. The role calls for empathy, sound judgement and an understanding of the needs of older people and carers.
This is a hybrid role combining home and office working, with occasional travel across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. Your contractual office base will be agreed with the successful candidate, and applications are welcomed from people living across these areas. The successful candidate must have access to a car for business use; eligible travel expenses will be reimbursed.
The advertised salary is based on a full-time working week of 35 hours. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required, with these commitments confirmed and planned in advance.
Must haves:
- Experience of working with others to deliver successful projects and services
- Recruiting, managing and working with volunteers
- Knowledge of the issues affecting older people and carers
- Knowledge of local services in the public or voluntary sector
- Experience of coordinating and undertaking a range of communications, marketing and promotion
- Excellent administrative skills, ability to maintain systems, manage processes and attention to detail
- Excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships, work collaboratively but also on own initiative
- Experience of coordinating events such as meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars
- Strong IT, data management and analysis skills.
