Age Cymru has welcomed the publication today of a report about the UK's biggest ever investigation into allegations of abuse at care homes.
Operations Jasmine was looking at allegations that 103 people at six care homes in South Wales were abused.
But the seven year, £15 million investigation collapsed when Dr Prana Das the director of Puretruce Health Care Limited - a company which owned 25 care homes, suffered a brain injury.
Commenting on the publication of the report ‘In Search of Accountability' by Dr Margaret Flynn, Age Cymru's Chief Executive, Ian Thomas, says:
"The abuse of older people in any way shape or form is totally unacceptable and Age Cymru welcomes the publication of this report and its recommendations.
"The families of people abused in these six care homes have waiting a long time for any kind of justice and we salute their tireless campaigning for action to be taken.
"We welcome Dr Flynn's call for board members of companies who provide care services to be held accountable for failings like those identified by Operation Jasmine.
"The needs of care home residents must always come first and they and their families must have the peace of mind of knowing that they will always be looked after properly and be treated with respect and dignity.
"Making board members accountable for such failings as the ones investigated by Operation Jasmine would act as a safeguard and help ensure that care home residents are actually getting the care they deserve."
