Deaths from hypothermia

Responding to reports that deaths from hypothermia among older people have doubled in the last five years, Graeme Francis Age Cymru's Head of Policy and Public Affairs says:
"We like to think of ourselves as a civilised and compassionate society which protects the most vulnerable people in our midst.
"But the fact that there are still older people who are suffering and dying of hypothermia because they can't keep warm is absolutely scandalous.
"Society is clearly failing older people and they are paying with their lives and we cannot allow this situation to continue.
"As part of a wider package of measures to help older people during the winter months Age Cymru would like to see local authorities administering or supporting emergency schemes which provide repairs to temporary heating to people in crisis situations."
