Gwanwyn festival grant winners announced

Published on 20 March 2014 11:30 AM

Our arts festival for over 50s has published the names of the 49 arts groups and projects that will be receiving one of its ‘Gwanwyn' grants this year.

The Gwanwyn festival is a Wales-wide, month-long arts event for over 50s run every May by Age Cymru and supported by the Welsh Government and Arts Council of Wales.

Every May, the festival sees events organised across the country that celebrate creativity in older age.

49 arts groups and projects around Wales will be getting a grant to organise an arts event for older people during May.

Says Emma Robinson, Age Cymru's Arts & Creativity Development Officer:

"From rug making in Cwmbran; film workshops in Swansea; singing in St Asaph; to watercolour painting in Aberdare, there'll be something for everyone in this year's Gwanwyn festival.

"There's a ceramics workshop in Newtown; a fashion reminiscence and show in Monmouth; flower arranging courses in Carmarthen; a ‘Saxophone for fun' session in Cardiff - and that's just for starters.

"We've been lucky to have had so many interesting projects wanting to be part of our celebrations this May and I'm very happy about the diverse range of activities that'll be involved in this year's festival."

In 2013, over 9,000 people took part in over 400 events, organised by 65 organisations during the Gwanwyn festival.
